East of Eden: Profane Gardens
Guggenheim Gallery, Chapman University,
Orange, California., 1999
In this window installation in the Guggenheim Gallery the actual campus landscape was incorporated into the scenic mural. The exterior space was seen through the cut-out diagram of the Katsura tea garden stepping stones and the view shifted back and forth from inside to outside the gallery. This installation intensified the viewer’s awareness of movement, position and perception of place along with the consideration of past and present, representation and reality, 2-D and 3-D.
